May 2012 Events

Concert in Parade Gardens, Bath

January News 2011

Happy New Year to all our supporters and avid readers of Band News (hi Mum)

Unfortunately the Christmas Concert had to be cancelled in December because of the bad weather, our apologies to everyone who was looking forward to it but it wouldn't have made any sense to expect everyone to come out in those conditions (and some couldn't have got there at all).  Paula Kitley, who had kindly volunteered to do refreshments for the event had the dreaded flu and so couldn't make mince pies herself, so hubby and bass-player Richard Kitley purchased a load for the event which of course weren't used.  Still, if anyone ever asks "who ate all the pies" at least we'll know!

Despite the weather the band still managed to get loads of caroling in - even on the green at Clutton and at Hallatrow a few days before Christmas with temperatures down to seven below zero.  Jo and the Committee would like to thank all of the players and collectors who braved the elements week-in–week-out, Jo said she would like to buy you all a drink if she ever sees you in a pub, in Shepton Mallet, on a Tuesday night, in the next couple of weeks, between 7:30pm and 9:30pm.

An early Christmas present for Thomas Williams (right) our Bass Trombone player who earned himself a place in the National Youth Orchestra.  Many congratulations to Thomas although I'm not sure he realises exactly how much work it will be – ahh to be young.  Of course he'll need to remember to face in the direction of the conductor, sit up straight and take a pencil!

LouisJames

Also news of another great achievement this week, Louis James our 2nd Trombone player has passed Grade 7 with Distinction.  Well done Louis from the whole band.

Finally, for those arm-chair players out there, what's your New Year's resolution-  Go to the gym, give up smoking, go out and get some new friends by taking up a hobby perhaps-  Well, you could give us a call and join the band, Tuesday and Friday rehearsals, it's more fun than the gym and we won't charge you £300 a year to make you go through hell, it's only a pound a week.

Happy New Decade
