February News 2011
Firstly an apology, last month there was a reference to Richard Kitley our Bb bass player eating lots of pies. This has turned out to be completely false, the pies are in the freezer and Richard has done really well since getting over his anorexia and we don’t want him to relapse otherwise we’ll have to put him on a smaller instrument.
Anyway, January has been back the grind-stone with a variety of engagements coming up through March including a wedding, ladies night at the Round Table and of course the Area’s in Torquay on the 12th. It’s fair to say that the first time we played Prelude, Song and Dance it was more like Faulty Blowers (see what I did, Torquay get it-) but things have come on and, with more rehearsals than you can shake a stick at coming up, expectation is high.

Also in the news, the annual band dinner. A great night organised by band secretary Heather Allard where Rob Gould (above) won “Best Dressed Man” and where we found out that Stef Dera doesn’t like his ice cream too frozen. This year’s prize winners were Jess Knight for Youth Player of the year, we also found out she’s really a Princess – may the force me with you your majesty (wouldn’t that make Tony Darth Vader-).
Stefan Dera won the Angela Lowe Memorial Trophy and keeping it in the family, Margaret Dera was awarded Madam Secretary's Award for her hard work and long hours she puts in on the library.
Finally, Clare Knight, Principal Cornet and all-round good-egg, was voted Players Player of the Year, a well deserved award and not a surprise when you count exactly how many members of her family play in the band.
Well done to all the prize-winners and thank you to Heather for arranging a jolly good night out.

How did you not all notice that HRH Jessica is a princess? She is the most regal cornet player I have ever seen.
How is Amf Knight going to manage to play bass when he was a
horn/cornet player in a previous life? (He moved to cornet because I was better on tenor horn than him!) Keep us posted on his efforts please.
